If New Year's were a person, I'd feel really bad for them.
We place SO MUCH pressure on New Year's Eve, New Year's Day, and just on New Year's in general. High expectations. No one could live up to the expectations and hopes we place on each New Year. Better finances, better relationships, better fitness.
But what happens in that blink of an eye between 11:59:59pm on December 31st and 12:00:00 on January 1st?
What magic? What sorcery? What significance?
It's nothing. It's a construct.
You can start being better with your finances on Thursday, December 28, 2023, at 1:47 pm.
You could go (back) to the gym on Saturday, December 30, 2023, at 8:23 am.
There's nothing magic about midnight on December 31st. Truly, there's nothing magic about any promises we make to ourselves as part of a New Year's resolution; whether at the turn of the calendar or not. According to the Fisher School of Business at Ohio State University, "...Only 9% of Americans that make resolutions complete them. In fact, research goes on to show that 23% of people quit their resolution by the end of the first week, and 43% quit by the end of January."
I'm not gonna get better at any of those things. You're not gonna get better at any of those things. At least, not without God's help. Not without the friendship of the Holy Spirit. And to call on that supernatural power I don't need to toot a horn, or kiss a stranger, or let off fireworks. I need to pray. You need to pray. WE need to pray.
Making prayer a regular part of our everyday lives makes resolutions achievable.
Let's do that in 2024. Wait. Scratch that. Let's do that STARTING TODAY. Join us for Supernatural tonight at the church at 6:30pm. Let's take the position and posture of prayer to bring change to our lives and our world!
Praying for God's grace and peace in your life,
